the many goodbyes

the many goodbyes

What is it do I want to say
when your eyes meet mine
wondering why
is it so necessary
to be reminded
that we are mortals?

How can this presence together
suddenly become
an agony,
a foreseen future
of separation
and loneliness?

Why is it that when life
becomes so precious,
when the moments
are numbered,
the abyss of the soul grows
ever deeper?

Who has lived in your body
longing to meet
that which beats in mine,
suddenly
unable to take its time,
to reach the ineffable?

When will you utter
the most important words,
the meaningful ones,
bringing life
to a conversation
already cremated?

Will you stop your gaze
as if I had left the stage
leaving behind
the lonesome flowers,
the void of space,
the lowering of a curtain?

Beautiful and sad….Our bodies are mortals but our souls live forever…We were created on the image of God…..
