To Live Through it All

To Live Through it All

— In response to the Lebanese Protests —

To iterate the madness of life through the domination of people in controlling resources, finances, and choking the populace. Men and women in power are blinded by too much power and their lifestyle.

I wrote Stand, a poem calling my people to stand up for their rights in the midst of government injustice ten years ago, when they were damned in their submission. As I write today, my people is damned because they are standing and protesting for their livelihood. All the needs and institutions have been cut off from them. It is a beheading ceremony. A guillotine where the enemy is from the people gone rogue. It is cancer in all its genius ways to smother and kill a living organism.

How can we survive the carnage? Do we cut out these parts? Do we blast them with chemicals? Do we starve ourselves? Do we falter and succumb to the incessant domination?

Here is another way to look at things: Today calls us to reinvent ourselves, to call upon the wisdom of ancient civilizations which survived strives like ours, to find the calm in the middle of the storm. Today is the time to find ways to take in the immensity of the dis-ease and breathe life into our social body. Today is the time to bring our hearts, souls and minds together. We can see the undeniable rotten parts, the ones affected, the ones suffocated, the ones dying and not functioning anymore.

This is our time to see ourselves out of trouble. We have been waiting for this moment. If there is no money, let us barter. If there is misunderstanding, let us listen. If there is resentment, let us forgive. We cannot change the past nor what led us to today. We can make thoughtful steps for the present. We can recreate our stories. We can because we are, we exist and it is by remembering our identities, our qualities and strengths, the sense of welcoming, our generosity, our honoring each other, the opening our homes, that we are able to find solutions to carve ourselves a new future.
So STAND, because the time is NOW.
