When Love Cringes

When Love Cringes

greenery on a nature walk in Bellingham Washington

When Love cringes
At the words uttered
Or written in a text
In a message
Meant to put the finger
On the wound
On the slashed ripped skin
Of the heart

When Love cringes
Forgetting its nature
Of acceptance
A space to simply
Be
A way to understand
The human part
Incomplete
Imperfect
Unfinished

When Love cringes
At the mess left out
Between two souls
Joined
Disjoined
In accord
And dis-accord

Silence is best
Like the bird
Ceases to sing
At the howl
Of the tempest

Silence is best
Like the leaf
Falls to the ground
In the whirlwind
Of the storm
